Far off Games I’m looking forward to

Last month I did my list of some of the games I was looking forward to releasing this year. Now I want to set my sights further, to 2026 and beyond – to the games I’m intrigued about in the years to come, even ones that technically don’t even exist in public knowledge yet.

For the games not officially announced yet, enjoy the weird fan made logos I sourced from Google.

‘Noir Western RPG’ (ZAKAZANE)

From ex CD PROJEKT RED developers and being published by Neowiz, the developers of Lies of P of all things is this curious idea. Described as above, it’s a game in which you play a sheriff in an old western mountain town, ‘tasked with uncovering a mystery that threatens to divide the local community’ Also described as III – Triple I – Triple Independent, this one is one to look out for.

Project 007 (IO Interactive)

This one feels like it’s been in the public aether for a wee while now but I’m confident this year is the year we see it and maybe even get a release date – which could very well be in 2025! Regardless, it’s been a good wee while since we’ve had a James Bond title and the people behind the Hitman games seem like the perfect ones to take on the project.

Project USO (Surgent Studios)

I have a lot of respect for Abubakar Salim for getting on stage, showing true emotion and dedicating his first project to the memory of his passed away father. It’s just a shame I didn’t vibe with the game he and his team had made, despite the theming. I’m glad the online hate didn’t disrupt the studios plans for their next game, which seems to be more involved and interesting while still keeping those African myths and theming.

‘Retro Sci-Fi First Person Action RPG’ (Wolfeye Studio)

In the time it’s taken me to write this article, the team at Wolfeye has found a publisher – Neowiz. That means they are publishing two titles on this list which hopefully means two physical copies.

A group of Arkane developers left the studio to form their own, perhaps seeing where the likes of Deathloop and Redfall were heading. Regardless they made a game in a genre they were familiar with – Weird West. Personally I loved the setting but the game was a little too janky and not enough like how I wanted it so I ended up bouncing off of it.

This next game looks much more of a return to form and a much more intriguing project. Falling more in line with Outer Worlds or Fallout or Bioshock with its aesthetic design more than something like Prey, the screenshots the team have shown are looking really good. I’m eager to learn more.

The Witcher Remake (Molasses Flood)

While the recently revealed Witcher 4 is doubtlessly a good few years away, I have hope that the remake of the first game is closer to release than that. I think now is the perfect time for the original game given the series’ rise in popularity. The first was fairly niche, the second managed to score an Xbox 360 release and the third was a mega hit for the company, millions of well-deserved copies sold which did lead to the rise in the meme of Gamers not knowing the definition of underrated.

That’s not that relevant. If the Witcher 1 could be made to be on par with the Witcher 3, I think that’d be perfect for the game. Maybe they could also have Assassin of Kings, the second game, done next – just to have them all uniform.

Project Steambot (Ubisoft)

I won’t say too much since I wrote an article about this earlier on this month, in fact you can read it here: Rambling about the Rayman Remake — CraigPlaysGames

Far Cry 7/Project Blackbird (Ubisoft)

I know the Far Cry series is hit and miss for people and I do get why. That being said I do really enjoy them as mindless fast food for the brain and think Far Cry 5 had the chance to be something truly great. Regardless, rumours of Far Cry 7 paint a very interesting picture of what the game might be.

Apparently, the game is to be set on an island in the Korean Sea, you must fight to save members of your family from a shadowy group, working against an in game timer. People hate timers but I think this is just the shake up the series needs and I for one can’t wait.

There’s also Project Maverick which is Far Cry multiplayer spun out on its own. Far Cry’s gunplay feels good so Multiplayer should be some fun too.

Any number of Resident Evil titles (Capcom)

At present, we’re looking at a total of N potential projects – Remakes of 1, 0, Code Veronica or 5 as well as new title Resident Evil 9. Given the current track record, I’ve got good reason to believe that we will see all of these titles in some form or another over the coming years which is absolutely fine with me as I adore this franchise.

Marvel’s Blade (Arkane Lyon)

While half of the Arkane lot were in the mines slaving away on Redfall, it seems the other half had a bit more luck and were working on a Blade game. Usually I’d bemoan a talented studio being sentenced to making licenced games (like Insomniac) but Blade lines up well with Arkane’s skill set, especially given their prior experience with Dishonored. Even better, by the time this releases it looks like Xbox will have gone fully third party, so everyone gets to enjoy.

Little Devil Inside (Neostream Interactive)

From the era of Kickstarter’s Heyday, Little Devil Inside straddles the line of long gestating project and vapourware in the eyes of many. It’s existed in some format for 11 odd years now, expecting to launch on the Wii U originally. Years of silence was broken this last year with an update on the turmoil at the studio. Better communication was promised, but there’s been silence for nearly a year now.

I still have faith that the project will see the light of day in some form or another. I believe the studio are very well intentioned and this is just a side of indie development not often seen. If worst comes to it, We Kill Monsters by Glass Revolver seems to be fitting a similar niche, if artistically different.

Control 2/Alan Wake III (Remedy Entertainment)

One of the great things about Remedy is that their quarterly business calls offer an insight into the workings of game development we don’t usually get to see. We know their next game is FBC: Firebreak, a co-op shooter set in the locale of Control. There’s also Control 2 and the remakes of Max Payne 1+2 to look forward too. Arguably my most anticipated is Alan Wake 3, which may very well release in 10 years’ time given it’s not even on the list yet.

In the time it’s taken me to write this article, Remedy has released their latest financial report and it looks like Alan Wake III is set for 2029, following FBC: Firebreak this year, Max Payne 1+2 remake in 2026 and finally Control in 2027. Busy few years for the guys at Remedy but I can’t wait.

EOLLA (4A Games)

Until they’re officially announced, any one of these games could be cancelled. Even after their announcement they could canned for any reason. This project is different however in the sense that it may not even be real.

Rumours have it that 4A Games, developers of the Metro series are reviving one of their old projects – Eolla. Described as being ‘S.T.A.L.K.E.R in Space’ and being helmed by the original creator of Metro and S.T.A.L.K.E.R (the games, not the books) – N. This might explain the gap between Metro Exodus and the sequel, since I imagine both games are being developed in tandem. I can’t imagine they’d release in the same year but having them a year or so apart would make for something great to look forward to.

That’s the list as it stands now, I’m sure there will be plenty more as the year goes on, especially with the likes of Exodus and Blood of the Dawnwalker probably seeing delays until 2026. Save for the possibility of an industry crash, it’s nice to see the future of games looks bright.
